Almeda (Schmidt) Waggoner, 95, went home to be with her Lord on Sunday, December 16, 2018.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 P.M. Thursday, December 20, 2018 at the Shelley Family Funeral Home of Winfield. Burial will follow at Geuda Springs Cemetery. The family will greet friends at the funeral home from 4-6 P.M. on Wednesday, December 19, 2018. Memorial contributions in Almeda's name may be made to the St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital, contributions may be left in care of the funeral home.
Almeda was born on August 29, 1923 to Henry and Minnie (Jantz) Schmidt. On February 14, 1946 she married Nathan A. Waggoner. Together they raised five children, two sons and three daughters. She was an active member of the Slate Valley Baptist Church where she was known as the Vacation Bible School “craft lady.” She also taught a primary Sunday school class and was a youth leader for many years. Her passion was sharing the love of her Savior with others and working with children. Almeda also worked at the Winfield State Hospital for a number of years.
She is preceded in death by her parents, eleven siblings, her husband Nathan, daughter Alisa, son in law David Lemke, and great-granddaughter Lily Waggoner. She is survived by her sister Fern Curry, sons Henry Waggoner and wife Ginger of Enid, Oklahoma; Michael A. and wife Cheryl of Dexter, Kansas; daughters Teresa Waggoner of Winfield; and Mona Lemke of Arkansas City, Kansas. Other survivors include 16 grandchildren, numerous great-grandchildren, and 5 great-great- grandchildren. She leaves a legacy of faith and love to everyone who knew her, and the challenge to smile no matter what.
