Barbara "Joyce" (Austin) Hockenbury

Barbara “Joyce” Hockenbury, 83, of Arkansas City, KS, passed away on May 25, 2019 at South Central Kansas Medical Center. 

Graveside Funeral Services will be held 2:00 P.M. at Parker Cemetery on Wednesday, May 29, 2019.  A visitation will be held at Shelley Family Funeral Home of Arkansas City on Wednesday morning from 9:00 A.M. to noon.  A memorial has been established in Joyce’s name for the National Kidney Foundation.  

Barbara Joyce was born on January 25, 1936, in Winfield, KS, the daughter of John Howard and Margaret May (Naw) Austin.  She was united in marriage to Joseph Calvin Hockenbury, Jr on July 19, 1953 at the Silverdale Community Church.   She loved to cook and worked as a cook at Camp Horizon, Medicalodges of Arkansas City and Presbyterian Manor.  She was known for excellent bread and cookies.  

Her family includes: Her sons, Jerry and Joe Hockenbury (Deloris) of Arkansas City; daughter Judy Baldwin (Bob) of Topeka, KS; siblings, Martha Howell and Tom Austin; 21 grandchildren and 21 great-grandchildren and 4 great-great grandchildren.  She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, two brothers, Fred and Brad and infant twin sister.
