Charlotte Skinner Obituary

Charlotte Ann Skinner, 77, of Austin, AR, died Friday, November 22, 2019.

She was born April 25, 1942 to Kenneth and Cleo Graves (Stockton) in Arkansas City, KS. She grew up in the Ark City area attending IXL (a one room school house) until junior high school when her family moved into the city. For Charlotte, education was always a priority throughout her life. Charlotte graduated from Emporia State University with her Bachelor degree and then later earned a Masters degree from Emporia State. Charlotte went on to earn her Doctoral degree from Kansas State University 1999.

Charlotte began with a singular career focus in education. Her first role was elementary education in Atlanta, KS. With the unification of the Burden school districts, Charlotte continued to teach until the birth of her last son in 1970 when in 1971, she and Robert relocated to Salina, KS. Charlotte returned to teaching first at Kipp, then Assaria, and later at the Unified School District Southeast of Saline. While at Southeast of Saline, Charlotte continued teaching various elementary grades until moving into the position of librarian. After receiving her doctorate, she taught as a graduate assistant at Kansas State University before attaining a position at Arkansas State University in 1999. She continued at Arkansas State until her retirement in 2006.

Charlotte was preceded in death by her parents and her grandparents; her grandparents, Orville and Alice Stockton (Brodock), Roy and Maude Graves (Irvine). Charlotte is survived by her husband, Robert Skinner, her three children: Elizabeth, Jerol, and Wade, and a passel of 8 grandchildren. Elizabeth and Jasper's children are Dyer, Sierra, and Shelby; Jerol and Renee's children are Elinor and Aubrey; Wade and Sylvia's children are Cody, Kegan, and Elise.

Charlotte is also survived by a sister, Arnetta Curless, wife of Mike Curless, brother Russel Graves, husband of Sandie Graves, and brother James Graves, husband of Cheryl Graves along with being blessed with many wonderful nieces and nephews with growing families of their own.

Memorial services will be held at 1:30 P.M. Monday, December 2, 2019 at the Shelley Family Funeral Home of Winfield. Inurnment will follow services at the Burden Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the hospice organization of your choice, contributions may be left in care of the funeral home.
