Donna Wollard-Sauzek Obituary

Donna Jean Wollard-Sauzek, 92, passed away July 1, 2019 at her residence, Joy Home, in Oxford, KS.

Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 A.M., Saturday July 6, 2019 at the Oxford United Methodist Church. Visitation will be Friday, July 5, 2019 from 1:00 until 8:00 P.M. with the family receiving friends from 6:00 until 8:00 at the Oxford Funeral Service Chapel. Memorials have been established with the Oxford Friendship Center and the Food Bank at the Oxford United Methodist Church. Contributions can be left with the Oxford Funeral Home, P.O. Donna Jean Wollard-Sauzek was born February 7, 1927 in Baker, Kansas to Ernest Carl and Edna Maude (Clouse) Boss. She attended schools in Baker, Powhattan and Horton, Kansas. She graduated from the Wichita VO-Teck school in 1976 with a Dietary Managers degree.

She married John Siebenmorgen of Robinson, Kansas in 1944, they were later divorced. On January 26, 1956, she married William Louis (Tate) Wollard of Geuda Springs, Kansas. Most of their married life was spent on dairy farms in Cowley County. Both were active 4-H club leaders several years and served as a “host” family to seven foreign students: 4 veterinarians from Kenya, 1 man from Nigeria, 1 man from Southern Rhodesia, and 1 girl from Norway.

In 1983 Donna began working at the Winfield State Hospital and Training Center where she served as a Dietary supervisor for 8 years, retiring in 1991. She was a member of the Wichita District State and National Dietary Managers Association while employed there and served as secretary of the state association for 3 years. She attended the national Dietary Convention in Washington D.C., Nashville, TN., Orlando, FL., Las Vegas, NV., and St. Louis, MO. She was a member of the Arkansas City VFW Auxiliary and a past member of the Gideon International Auxiliary.

The Wollards retired to Oxford in the late 90’s where they were active members of the First Baptist Church for several years. Donna served as a Sunday School teacher, Jr. choir director, pianist, organist and member of the adult choir. She worked at the Riverview Manor Nursing Home several years and managed the Oxford friendship Center for 8 years. Mr. Wollard passed away December 16, 1997.

She met Gus E. Sauzek in 1999 at the Oxford Friendship Center where the combined their musical talents entertaining residents in nursing homes in the Sumner and Cowley county area. She played the piano and he would sing. They were married September 25, 1999. After her marriage to Mr. Sauzek she became a member of the Oxford United Methodist Church, where she served as organist until retiring in February 2012. She was a member of the Home Builder’s class and the Untied Methodist Women’s Group. She served as organist for many funerals and weddings in the community. Mr. Sauzek passed away May 8, 2007.

In June of 2015 Donna moved to the Joy Home in Oxford where she resided until her passing.

Donna was preceded in death by her husbands, parents, brother Martin Boss, and adopted son, Scott.

Survivors include a daughter Sharon Lind and husband Colonel George M. (Mike) of Arkansas City; 2 sons: Carl Wollard and wife Jennifer, of Arkansas City; John Wollard of Arkansas City; and adopted son Alan Wollard of Winfield; 3 step-sons: Ed Sauzek and wife Carolyn of Ponca City Oklahoma, Roy Sauzek and wife Deana of Wellington, and Larry Sauzek and wife Jean of Oxford and a cousin Arlen Endicott of Arkansas City. Also surviving are 14 grandchildren, 15 step-grandchildren, 18 great grandchildren, 26 step great grandchildren, 2 great-great grandchildren and 3 step great-great grandchildren.
