Gerald Dean Hittle, 93, passed away peacefully Friday, August 2, 2019 at his home in Winfield, Kansas.
Graveside services will be held at 10 AM Friday, August 9th at Highland Cemetery in Winfield. No visitation is scheduled. Memorial contributions may be made to Good Shepherd Hospice, contributions may be left in care of the Shelley Family Funeral Home of Winfield.
Gerald was born on February 22, 1926 to parents Edith (Hahn) and Lloyd Hittle Sr. in Winfield, Kansas where he happily spent his whole life. He graduated from Winfield High School in 1944. He married the love of his life Maxine Arlene Taton on October 21, 1947, they enjoyed 52 years of marriage, she preceded him in death in 1999. He farmed for Harold Holcher and Knepper’s in the Hackney area, retiring at age 62. As a young man he enjoyed working with cattle, horseback riding, rodeos and calf roping; he also liked watching sports, especially the Kansas City Royals. Gerald was a member of the Elks Club, he enjoyed going dancing with his wife, driving his golf cart around the Walnut Valley Festival and driving cars for Kline Motors. He was always helping people and particularly enjoyed using his snow scoop to clear snow for neighbors and friends. He adored his dog Sally and was so proud of his daughters and his grandchildren.
He is survived by daughter Jill and husband Craig Edwards, and daughter Mitzi Wells; grandchildren: Shelly Brown, Chad Edwards, Kimberly Edwards, Kelley Bolander, and Brandon Wells; great-grandchildren: Lexia Edwards, Brooke Bolander, Simone Brown, and Emalyn Wells; and brother H.T. Hittle. He is preceded in death by his parents, wife Maxine, and brother Lloyd Hittle Jr.
