Geraldine "Jerry" Ruby (Nelson) Headley

Geraldine “Jerry” Headley, 96, formerly of Wellington, passed away, Monday, December 3, 2018 at Brookdale Senior Living Center in Hutchinson, KS.

Funeral Services will be held at 10:30 A.M., Thursday, December 6, 2018 at the First Christian Church in Wellington. Visitation will be Wednesday, December 5, 2018 from 9:00 A.M. until 6:00 P.M. with the family receiving friends from 6:00 until 8:00 P.M. at the Shelley Family Funeral Home in Wellington. Interment will be at Prairie Lawn Cemetery. A memorial has been established with the First Christian Church. 

Geraldine was born September 18, 1922, the daughter of Fred and Minnie (Eaton) Nelson in Ponca City, OK. She graduated from Burbank High School in 1940. On October 20, 1943 Jerry was united in marriage to Hershel Headley in Westerly, Rhode Island. They celebrated 62 years of marriage. Jerry was a homemaker and farm wife, she also worked at the Wellington High School in food service. She loved to quilt and enjoyed volunteering at the Blessing House. Jerry belonged to the EHU and served on the Extension Council.

Jerry is survived by her son, Bob Headley (Alice) of Wellington, and daughter, Joan Smith (Steve) of Hutchinson, KS; 5 grandchildren: Debra Johanning (Dave) of Lawrence, Rebecca Williams (Gary) of Red Rock, OK, Michael Headley (Mandy) of Clearwater, KS, Hogan Smith (Valerie) of South Hutchinson, KS and Troy Smith of Kansas City, KS; and 10 great-grandchildren; and a brother, Leon Nelson of Oklahoma City, OK.

She is preceded in death by her parents and her husband, Hershel in 2005, son, Billy Headley in 2004, a sister, Madeline Hunt and 2 brothers: Elmer Nelson and Fred Nelson Jr.
