Gilbert Cooney, 73, of Oxford, passed away Monday, February 25, 2019, at his home with his family by his side.

Gilbert Dennis Cooney was born February 3, 1946, the son of Dennis and Elba (McVay) Cooney in Venita, OK. He graduated from Wellington High School in 1964. Gilbert was united in marriage to Anita Rose LaFever on April 2, 1965. Gilbert was a plumber, and electrician for Champion and Mobil Villa and later as a supervisor. He enjoyed motorcycle riding, camping and spending time with his family. When he was younger, he fished, hunted and would rebuild cars. Gilbert especially loved family dinners.

Gilbert is survived by his loving wife, Anita of the home; a daughter, Sheila Prichard (Steven) of Oxford, and a son, John Cooney (Carolyn) of Oxford; 3 grandchildren: Eric Prichard, Jared Prichard (Cheyanna) and Jessie Cooney; 3 great grandchildren: Nicholas Prichard, Autumn Prichard and Waylon Prichard; a sister, Gail Emley (Larry) of Wichita and a brother Gregory Cooney (Darlene) of Rome, KS, 2 nieces and 3 nephews.

He is preceded in death by his parents and 2 nephews.

Private family services have been held.
