Lance L. Walker

Lance Walker passed away at his home in Flower Mound, Texas, on Friday the 6th of September 2019.

     Lance was born January 3rd, 1962 in Arkansas City to William (Butch) Walker and Judy Rich Walker. He graduated from ACHS in 1980. He was employed at the General Electric Jet Engine Overhaul Facility at Strother Field for several years, before being involved in a serious automobile accident in September of 1986, which left him confined to a wheelchair for the remainder of his life. In 1992, he married Debra (Dickson) Krout, and in 2004, they moved to Flower Mound to be near their daughter Stephanie and her family. Debra passed away in 2013.

     Lance’s outgoing, friendly personality and straightforward manner inspired affection from generally everyone who came to know him. His wonderfully off-beat sense of humor made him lots of fun to be with. In spite of his disability, he was usually game for anything. He attended rodeo bull riding events and nearby NASCAR races as often as he could. He took great pleasure in trying new restaurants wherever he traveled and was quite an adventurous cook himself. He and his wife Deb enjoyed taking numerous excursions on their pontoon boat, fishing the lakes around Ark City and Flower Mound. He always looked forward to spending time at his father’s ranch where he had the opportunity to roam the outdoors to his heart’s content. Lance loved all television programs having to do with natural science and professional football, especially when his favorite team, the Kansas City Chiefs were playing. A louder, more raucous fan than Lance was, would be difficult to imagine.

      But Lance enjoyed nothing more than spending time with his family.  His relationship with his daughter, Stephanie was truly special. They looked out for each other in a way that was inspiring to all who witnessed it.  He also was a great buddy and helpmate to both of his grandchildren and loved going to their school and sports events. He was a dependable sideline supporter at practically every one of his grandson Caden’s baseball games (as well as football and basketball), forming friendships with other Little League families and supporters.

     All of the many friends and family members who knew and loved Lance, and who admired the courage and spirit he showed throughout his life, feel the deep loss of his passing.

     Lance was preceded in death by his paternal grandparents Milton Wayne (Shorty) Walker and his wife Mary; maternal grandparents Jerry Simpson and his wife Evelyn; wife, Debra Walker.

     Lance is survived by his father, William L.(Butch) Walker and his wife Connie of Kansas, OK; his mother, Judy Walker and her husband Rich Harmon of Houston, TX; his mother in law, Dorothy Dickson of Arkansas City; his sister Jennifer Anderson and her husband Ron Shimkus also of Houston; his stepdaughter Stephanie Goad and her husband John of Flower Mound; his grandchildren, Caden and Brianna Goad; stepsister Kristi Coker of Owasso, OK, and stepbrother Michael Salisbury and wife Stacey also of Owasso; sister in law, Kathy Traffas and husband Brian of Arkansas City and bother in law Don Dickson and wife Sherry of Oklahoma City,  as well as numerous cousins, uncles, aunts, nieces and nephews, for whom he felt an abiding and oft-expressed affection.

      A visitation will be held Friday September, 20th from 6 to 8 P.M. at Shelley Family Funeral Home in Arkansas City with Memorial services to be held Saturday, September 21st, at 10 A.M. at the funeral home. Inurnment will follow at Hope Cemetery, southwest of Arkansas City.
