Lee Roy Nally, Sr., 80, of Winfield passed away Saturday, October 5, 2019 at Rest Haven in Winfield with his family by his side.
As per his request cremation will be affected. Graveside memorial services will be held at 2 P.M. Friday, October 11, 2019 at Highland Cemetery in Winfield. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association, contributions may be left in care of the Shelley Family Funeral Home of Winfield.
Lee Roy Nally, Sr. was born July 18, 1939 in Caney, Kansas the son of Anna Marie (Fishburn) and Howard Nally, Sr. He was the 8th of 11 children. He attended school in Toronto and Fall River and later in Winfield. Lee Roy dropped out of school in 10th grade, the world was waiting and he needed to be in it. He later earned his GED certificate. Lee Roy married Kathleen Cooley on May 29, 1959 at her parent’s home in Winfield. She was the true love of his life and they were married for 60 years and 5 months.
Lee Roy was a hard worker and adept in many things; a rancher, plumber, a roofer, and an asphalt paver. He worked the last 28 years for Pike Construction and Railroad Maintenance, from which he retired in 2008. Lee Roy was very good at repairing things as well as building. His passion was restoring older cars, he completely rebuilt and customized a 1978 Chevrolet El Camino by himself and won many awards at car shows across Kansas and Oklahoma. He was a very kind man who never met a stranger and adored little kids.
Lee Roy is preceded in death by his parents; brothers Cecil “Butch” Nally and Howard Nally, Jr.; sisters: Maxine Baucom, Gertrude Beinhorn, Betty Estes, Doris Flauding, Mona Carthel and Ruby Nally. He is survived by his wife Kathleen, son Lee Roy Nally, Jr. and wife Sandy, brother Bob Nally, sister Dorothy Harp, as well as many nieces and nephews and beloved friends: Cammie McIver (Emily), children Knox and Kruz, and Stacie Smith (Dylan).
