Michael Givens, 72, of Wellington passed away Friday, July 26, 2019 at Ascension Via Christi-St. Francis Hospital in Wichita, KS.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 A.M., Thursday, August 1, 2019 at the First United Methodist Church in Wellington. Graveside services will be 2:00 P.M. at Hope Cemetery in Arkansas City, KS. Visitation will be held Wednesday, July 31, 2019 from 9:00 A.M. until 8:00 P.M. with the family receiving friends from 5:00 until 7:00 P.M. at the Shelley Family Funeral Home in Wellington. A memorial has been established with Victory in the Valley and may be left with the Shelley Family Funeral Home.
Michael Nelson Givens was born May 5, 1947 in Arkansas City, KS, the son of David “Boone” and Maxine (Nelson) Givens. He graduated from Arkansas City High School in 1965 and later received a degree from CCJC. He served his country in the United States Army as a 7th squad 1st Air Cavalry Blackhawk during the Vietnam War. On February 14, 1970 Mike was united in marriage to Saundra Hylton in Arkansas City, KS. Mike was a conductor for the Santa Fe Railroad for 42 years. Mike was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Wellington, United Transportation Union, Wellington American Legion, Life Member of the Arkansas City VFW, El Dorado Elks, National Rifle Association, Ducks Unlimited and Blackhawks Association.
Mike is survived by his wife Saundra, of the home; sons: Kevin (Sheri) Givens of Sudbury, MA and Justin (Katie) Givens of Derby, KS; 3 grandchildren: Grayson Givens, Fallon Givens and Isla Givens; 2 brothers: Robert Givens and Sara Groene Wisecup of Ft. Myers, FL and Steven Givens of Jacksonville, FL.
He is preceded in death by his parents and 2 sisters-in-law: Sandy Givens and Kate Givens.
