Paula Henry, 85, of Winfield, KS passed away at home on Friday, March 15, 2019.
A service celebrating her life will be held at 1 pm Saturday, March 23 at Grace Pointe Assembly in Winfield, with a visitation time from 12-1 pm. Graveside services will follow at Howard Cemetery in Howard, KS. Visitation will be Friday, March 22 from 1-8 pm with family receiving friends from 6-8 pm in the chapel at the Shelley Family Funeral Home of Winfield. Memorial contributions may be made to Grace Pointe Assembly and left in the care of the Shelley Family Funeral Home.
Paula was born on July 15, 1933 in Howard, KS daughter of Allen and Bessie (McKirahan) Forsyth. Paula grew up on her parent’s farm and graduated in 1951 from Howard High School. She attended Southwestern College in Winfield, KS graduating with a Bachelor of Arts Degree in 1955. In 1954 she married Miles Henry. Together they had three children, Dart, Dana, and Debi. They later divorced.
Paula began her teaching at Larned High School where she taught physical education. The following year she taught at Winfield High School. Paula started the Art Program at Marion High School where she taught for 8 years. During this time the family traveled and sang in many churches in the area.
In 1978 she moved to Anderson, IN where she taught for 17 years before retiring. Being a gifted artist, she received her Master’s Degree in Art Education from Ball State University in 1984. After retiring, Paula moved to a cabin on the lake in Council Grove, KS where she lived for 8 years where many family memories were made. In 2001 she moved to Winfield where she enjoyed being close to family and 15 years of substitute teaching.
Paula’s life has been centered around Jesus and fulfilling His will. She accepted Jesus when she was 14 and always strived to show His love. Her desire has always been to see everyone come to a saving knowledge of Jesus Christ. She dearly loved her family and her many friends.
Paula is survived by her son, Dart (Zita) Henry, daughter Dana (Thane) Mettling, brothers; Don (Diana) Forsyth, Charley (Jodi) Forsyth, numerous grand and great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, daughter Debi Henry and brother Ken and his wife Joanne Forsyth.
