Rex Moser Obituary

 Rex Moser, 83, of Mayfield, KS, passed away from this earthly realm, October 4, 2018 at Wesley Medical Center in Wichita.

Memorial Services will be held at 11:00 A.M., Monday, October 8, 2018 at The Church of Jesus Christ Latter-Day Saints 1003 W. 22nd Street in Wellington, KS. Memorials have been established with the Wellington Humane Society PO Box 494, Wellington, KS 67152 and the Shriners Children’s Hospital and may be left with Shelley Family Funeral Home 704 N. Washington, Wellington, KS 67152. 

Rex Fred Moser was born July 27, 1935 in Mayfield, KS, the second son of Charlie and Ira (Chiles) Moser. Rex was raised on the farm in the small town of Mayfield. He always commented on what a great childhood he had, along with his older brother, Dean. He was united in marriage to Anna May Brown in 1954. To this union were born 4 children: Doug, Greg, Robin and Janice. He was married to Betty Ann Criger August 12, 1972. Rex and Betty had a son Rex Jr.  Rex was united in marriage to Laurel Ann Appling on December 9, 1995. Their blended family was counted at 9 children and eventually 29 grandchildren. They have numerous great-grandchildren.

Rex worked driving a semi-tractor trailer most of his life. He carried grain to and from many farms, elevators and businesses in the region. Rex enjoyed fishing and the great outdoors. He was proud to be a boy scout leader for many years. He was recently honored to be named Mentor by his grandson Alex when he attained his Eagle Scout designation. Rex was a proud member of the Wellington Lodge # 150 A.F. & A.M. He thoroughly enjoyed participating in the Wheat Festival Parade, handing out American Flags to parade-goers. He loved America and revered the flag. He delighted in all things cowboy and had an extensive John Wayne collection.

Rex will be deeply missed by his wife Ann of the home; sons: Doug Moser (Judy) of Wellington and Greg Moser (Janette) of Wellington,  Rex Moser Jr. (Denise) of Wellington, KS, Philip Swafford of Maple Lake, MN; daughters: Robin May (Terry) of Stella, MO, Janice Mayfield and husband Darrel of Converse, TX, Susanne Quanz (Phillip) of Wellington, KS, and Lara Payton (Robert) of Mulvane, KS; 29 grandchildren, and many great-grandchildren; 2 nieces: Deanna Moser Soell and Teresa Moser Metzen; and 1 nephew, Charles Moser (Theresa), extended family member Daniel White (Rachel).

He is preceded in death by his parents, brother and sister-in-law, Charles Dean Moser (Bonnie) and a daughter, Gina Gerberding
