Wanda Evelyn (Gilges) Roths, 83, of Wellington passed away April 18, 2019 in Wellington.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:00 A.M., Wednesday, April 24, 2019 at St. Anthony Catholic Church. Rosary will be Tuesday, April 23, 2019 at 7:00 P.M. at St. Anthony Catholic Church. Visitation will be Tuesday, April 23, 2019 from 9:00 A.M. until 6:00 P.M. with the family present from 4:00 until 6:00 at the Shelley Family Funeral Home in Wellington. A memorial has been established with the St. Anthony Altar Society may be left with the Shelley Family Funeral Home 704 N. Washington, Wellington, KS 67152.
Wanda Evelyn (Gilges) Roths was born October 21, 1935 in Maysville, AR to her parents Waldo Gilges and Grace (Moomey) Gilges. Wanda and her family moved to Kansas where she attended Conway Springs schools and was Homecoming Queen and graduated in 1954. She met and married the love of her life Cyril Roths on August 18, 1954 at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church by Father Tareline. They moved to Wellington, KS to raise their family and where they have resided ever since. Wanda was a longtime sales associate at JC Penney’s in Wellington retiring in 1988, after the store’s closing. She was an active member of St. Anthony’s Church, Altar Society and worked as a volunteer at the Catholic Thrift Shop for several years. Her favorite pastime was quilting and often spent many afternoons with her quilting club and friends making beautiful handmade quilts.
Wanda is survived by her husband, Cyril Roths of the home; her sons: Roger Roths (Elizabeth), Allan Roths (Amy); her daughters: Debbie Sandell and Suzanne Hay (Tim); grandchildren: Isac Roths (Carrie), Airily Cornejo (Jessie), Courtney Aungst (Douglas), Jason Roths (Jessica), Taylor Sandell (Jessica), Ryan Hay (Jennifer), Sydney Hay, Dylan Hay, Jessica Vega, Mikey Collins, and Ashley Collins; great-grandchildren: Kaitly Roths, Ethan Roths, Jax Cornejo, Lyric Cornejo, Cruz Cornejo, Derex Hay, Shyla Hay, Attikus Hay, Devin Aungst, Natalie Aungst, Juda Vega, Brendan Hay, Maddie Leon, Kasen Sandell, Charlie Sandell, Kimberly Lambert, Annabella Roths, Dainen Johanson, Scarlet Johanson and Alice Hay.
She is preceded in death by her parents, Waldo and Grace Gilges and three sisters: Fern (Bob) Kelley, Mildred (Leon) Cotton and Wilma (Leonard) Stump; a brother, Harold (Sharon) Gilges and a grandson, Nathan Sandell.
