Antonio Joseph Mendoza, 82, of Arkansas City, KS passed away on June 26, 2024, at his home surrounded by his family.
Graveside services with military honors will be held on July 8 at 10 a.m. at the Kansas Veterans Cemetery in Winfield. Memorial donations may be made to American Legion Post 18 or 20(Coffeyville) and left in the care of the Shelley Family Funeral Home of Arkansas City. Friends and Family are welcomed to gather for dinner at American Legion in Ark City following Graveside service.
Antonio was born in Independence, KS to parents Arcadio and Phyllis (Castorena), Mendoza. He graduated from Independence High School before enlisting in the US Air Force. Afterwards, he married Marilyn Edwards in 1973, who preceded him in death in 2000 and later remarried in 2006 to Charlotte Weber of Coffeyville, Ks. where they resided until she preceded him in death in 2017. Antonio later moved back to Ark City to be closer to his children. He started his career at Dixie Portland in 1981 which later became ADM Milling East and worked as an elevator operator until his retirement. He was a member of the Catholic Church, American Legion Post 20, and enjoyed collecting coins, listening to Oldies Music but most of all, spending time with his family.
He is survived by his children; Brian Edwards (Debra), T.J. Mendoza (Alysa), and Anna Eastman; siblings Alex, Joe, Nacho, Mary, and Esther; 12 grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews.
He is also preceded in death by his parents and two infant siblings.
