Danny Bowker, 79, died Monday, December 13, 2021 at the South Central Kansas Regional Medical Center in Arkansas City, KS, after a brief illness.
Danny was born on March 31, 1942 in Arkansas City, KS the son of Wilbert “Monk” and Nila Marie (Peters) Bowker. He was educated in the Arkansas City school system, graduating from Arkansas City High School with the class of 1960. He worked in the family autobody business at Bowker’s Auto Body Shop in Arkansas City, from 1964-1966, when he joined the Arkansas City Fire Department from 1966-68. In 1968 he and his then-wife moved to Las Vegas, NV where he was hired by the Clark County Fire Department. He rose in rank from Firefighter to Engineer, and then moved into the Fire Investigative Division, becoming the Senior Fire Investigator until 1980. From 1980-1990 he owned and operated a very successful private fire investigative business, Bowker Fire Cause Consulting and then moved to Shawnee, OK for a year, returning to the Arkansas City area in 1992. Danny enjoyed golfing, watching the NFL, and singing with the Walnut Valley Men’s Chorus. He also enjoyed singing and playing the guitar with local friends, and cooking meals for the Arkansas City Fire Department in his spare time.
Survivors include his three daughters; Kelly of Shelbyville, IL; Kristy of Guthrie, OK; and Kimberly of Effingham, IL; brothers Donald Bowker of Arkansas City, and Gary Bowker of Winfield, KS along with numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and a sister, Nancy Bowker-Dziedzic.
Cremation will take place and a private family graveside service will be held at a later date. Arrangements are in the care of the Shelley Family Funeral Home of Arkansas City. Memorial contributions may be made to the Arkansas City Fire Department, donations may be left in the care of the Shelley Family Funeral Home of Arkansas City.
