Dennis Ralph Irving, 74, of Arkansas City, KS, passed away peacefully Sunday, August 23, 2026, at his home, surrounded by his family.

Memorial services will be held at 2 PM on Saturday August 29th at Blessing Heights Church of God in Arkansas City. Memorial contributions in his name may be made out to the Cowley County Humane Society and left in the care of the Shelley Family Funeral Home.

Dennis was born on March 30, 1952, in Kansas City, KS, to parents Thomas and Betty (Comer) Irving. Growing up, Dennis was raised in Los Angeles, CA, living in Pomona and El Monte, where he attended school. Dennis worked as a welder for many years, then worked as a refrigeration mechanic for Creekstone until 2015, when he retired. He was the biggest Kansas City Chiefs fan around; he also enjoyed visiting the casinos in his spare time. Dennis was a FIDE-ranked chess player; he could play a match, watch the Chiefs game on TV, and have a conversation all at once—and win his chess game! Dennis had 2 dogs, Fluffy and Jack, who held a special place in his heart and on his lap. Most of all, family was Dennis’ greatest joy. They will deeply miss him.

Dennis is survived by his daughters Tina McCann (Tommy), Tammy case (Robert “JR”), Christa Davis (Brent) and Brandy Long, 13 grandchildren and several great-grandchildren, siblings Bill Irving, Sue Wykes, Kerry Irving, Dana Irving, Melody Irving, Donald Irving, Kermit Irving (Brandy), John Irving (Joyce), siter-in-law Janine Irving, and numerous nephews and nieces.

He is preceded in death by his parents and brother, Kelvin Irving, grandson Mason, and brother-in-law Bobby Wykes.
