Dennis “Grumpy” Richard Wilkinson, 78, of Winfield, KS passed away Friday, July 26, 2024 at his home.
Memorial services will be held at 10:00 AM Friday, August 9, 2024 at the Kansas Veterans Cemetery in Winfield. The Wilkinson family invites friends to join them for a reception at the American Legion following the service. Memorial contributions may be made to his wife, Judy Bob Wilkinson, donations may be left in the care of the Shelley Family Funeral Home of Winfield.
Dennis was born on April 22, 1946 in La Crosse, WI to parents Richard and Dorothy (Zimmerman) Wilkinson. He proudly served in the US Army, after being honorably discharged Dennis became a police officer. He later worked as a paramedic, dispatcher, fire department chief, transporter for the Sheriff’s department, as well as a private investigator. Dennis was united in marriage to Judy Bob Solomon on February 6, 2000 in Indian Hills, CO, they moved to Winfield, KS later that year. He enjoyed fixing old radios, televisions and computers, listening to big band music and swing dancing. He was a member of the Winfield American Legion, the Bleus Breakfast Club, and was a foster parent for several years. Dennis always had a joke to tell, and he loved being there for his family.
Survivors include his wife Judy Bob Wilkinson, children, Kathy Huebner (Larry Jr.), Jeff Wilkinson, Scott Wilkinson (Kathryn), Robert Solomon, Ricky Solomon, Matthew Solomon, and Maggie Solomon, 11 grandchildren, 4 great-grandchildren with one on the way, brothers Gary Wilkinson (Ruth) and Stanley Wilkinson, sister Sue Wilkinson, and many foster children. He is preceded in death by his parents, stepmother Blanche Wilkinson, son Mark Wilkinson, and grandson Samuel Solomon.
