Diane Kay Detter Obituary

Diane K. Detter, 91, of Winfield, KS passed away Tuesday, September 9, 2025 at Cumbernauld Village.


A celebration of life will be held on Thursday, September 18, at 11 A.M. at the Winfield First United Methodist Church. Memorial contributions may be made to the First United Methodist Church Helping Hands ministry or to the Cumbernauld Village Employee Fund. Donations may be left in the care of the Shelley Family Funeral Home of Winfield.


Diane was born on July 29, 1934 in Sterling, KS to Roy and Laura Bernadine (Stubbs) Steierl. She graduated from Nickerson High School and then attended KU. On May 15, 1955, she was united in marriage to the love of her life, Marshall L. Detter in Sterling, KS. They had two children, Brad and Kim. The family moved to Winfield in 1962; they joined the First United Methodist Church and were very involved in the Winfield community. Diane worked at the Hanger, the Wardrobe and Kerr’s for many years. She was a member of the Aglaian Club, PEO, was a Cub Scout and Girl Scout troop leader, volunteered at the Community Food Pantry and at the WNH Auxiliary as a “pink lady” and was part of the original Main Street committee. Diane enjoyed shopping, sewing, baking, cooking, going for daily walks, and keeping her home in perfect condition for hosting for any event, including bridge club and coffee socials.


She is survived by her son Brad Detter (Barbara), daughter Kim Reynolds (Tom), grandchildren: Jennifer Heim, Michelle Lockman, Ashley Lovett (Craig), Luke McCune (Sara), and Sean McCune, great-grandchildren; Kristen Pisano, Zoey Pisano, Antonio Santiago, Casey Lockman, Austin Beck, Karter McCune, and Connor McCune, and sister-in-law Jan Flick (Larry).


She is preceded in death by her parents, husband, and brother, Jerry Steierl.
