Donald “Don” Dean Alley, 81, of Winfield, KS passed away on May 18, 2025 at his home.
Graveside memorial services with military honors will be held at 10:00 AM Friday, June 20, 2025 at the Kansas Veterans Cemetery of Winfield. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Winfield Correctional Facility Spiritual Life Center Fund or to the Shelley Family Funeral Home to defray expenses, donations may be left in the care of the Shelley Family Funeral Home of Winfield.
Don was born on August 3, 1943 in Rose Hill, KS to parents William Arthur and Katherine (Berger) Alley. He graduated from Derby, KS High School in 1961 and then enlisted in the Army and served in the 101st Airborne division. On March 24, 1973 he was united in marriage to the love of his life, Carolyn York in Derby. After being honorably discharged from the Army, Don worked for Santa Fe Railroad and retired in 1982. After retiring from the railroad, he started DA Awnings, where he made and installed awnings, did vinyl work, and car upholstery until 2020 when he had to retire for health reasons. Don enjoyed reading his Bible, listening to the radio, and visiting with anyone. Don was a part of the Working Men of Christ and Brothers in Blue prison ministry, through which he held a Bible study at the Winfield Correctional Facility.
Don is survived by his wife, children Robin Fleck (Brian), Ivan Alley (Nathan Fox), Heather Allen (Bart), grandchildren Dallas Fleck (Anthony Amettis), Layne Fleck, Price Allen, and Emmerson Allen, sisters Sondra Drake (Vernon) and Elaine Kohner (Jeff).
Don is preceded in death by his parents, siblings, William Alley, Marion Alley, Mark Alley, Gary Alley, Wilma Austin, Cherley Walters and twin brother Ronald Eugene.
