Donald Johnson Obituary

Donald R. Johnson, 93, of Winfield passed away peacefully on Friday, March 20, 2020 at the Kansas Veterans’ Home.

According to Don’s wishes cremation will take place and his family will have a private memorial service at the Plainview Memorial Park in Plainview, TX. Memorial contributions may be made to the National WWII Memorial of Washington, D.C. Contributions may be left in care of the Shelley Family Funeral Home of Winfield.

Don was born in Turkey, TX on July 9, 1926 the son of Louis Mervin Johnson and Ola (Fry) Johnson. He proudly served in the military during World War II, and married his love Virginia Jones on June 8, 1946 in Plainview, TX. Don worked as a meat cutter at several grocery stores including Shucks Grocery, Piggly Wiggly, and H & J Food Basket. Don was a member of the Odd Fellows Society and a life-long member of the VFW, he enjoyed flirting, dancing and tending his garden.

Survivors include his children: Linda McKee, Doyle “Buster” and Cheryl Johnson, and Debbie Walters. He is preceded in death by his parents and wife Virginia.
