Donald Joe McGlasson, 75, of Arkansas City, KS, went to meet his Lord and Maker in an ambulance on the way to Ascension Via Christi Hospital in Wichita, KS on December 17, 2019.
Cremation has taken place. A military inurnment service will be held on Thursday, January 2, 2020 at 2:00 P.M. at the Kansas Veteran’s Cemetery in Winfield, KS. A memorial has been established in his name with the City of Arkansas City, Veteran’s Lake. Contributions may be made through Shelley Family Funeral Home of Arkansas City. Donald was born the son of Reed and Oretha (Wilcoxen) McGlasson on May 11, 1944 on a farm outside of Grenola, KS. He was raised in Hackney township and attended school in Winfield. After high school, he served in the United States Army during the Korean Conflict. He was honorably discharged and returned to Arkansas City, where he met the love of his life, Anne Hess. The couple married on November 6, 1967 in Miami, OK and made their home in Arkansas City. Donald started his career with the Arkansas City Police Department. After that he went to work for Total Petroleum until its closing. Most recently, he worked for the Winfield Correctional Facility until his retirement. He enjoyed fishing, NHRA drag racing, coffee group with buddies and will be deeply missed by his family and friends.
Surviving to honor his memory is his wife, Anne of 52 years; his sons, Christopher Reed McGlasson and wife Tammy of Newkirk, OK and Edwin Howard McGlasson and wife Amanda of Shawnee, KS; his grandchildren, Christopher Ted McGlasson and wife Alicia; Katelyn McGlasson, Jacob McGlasson and Sydney McGlasson; his siblings, Mary Lou Shorter of Ponca City, OK; Ed McGlasson and wife Teresa of Arkansas City, KS; David McGlasson and wife Delores of Coffeyville, KS; his sister-in-law, Ruelena McGlasson of Wakeeney, KS and his brother-in-law; Biff Hess and wife Ruby of Charlotte, NC and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, sister, Alene Ware, brother, Kenneth McGlasson and brother-in-law, Tom Shorter.
