Donald “Wayne” Metzinger, 63, passed away Sunday, July 1, 2018 at William Newton Hospital in Winfield.
Graveside memorial services will be held at 10 A.M. Tuesday, July 10 at the Dexter, Kansas Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to the Cowley County Humane Society and the Dexter High School (USD# 471) Shop Class, contributions may be left in care of the Shelley Family Funeral Home – 803 Loomis St. Winfield, KS 67156.
Wayne was born in Arkansas City, Kansas on December 15, 1954. Wayne graduated from Dexter High School in 1974. Wayne was united in marriage with Denise Bradley on October 16, 1976 in Dexter, they were married for 25 years and later divorced. He had a strong work ethic and took pride in a job well done. Wayne worked for Butler Brothers in the oil field and spent many years farming and ranching with Bradley and Sons. He also enjoyed anything involving the outdoors: gardening, camping, fishing and hunting. Wayne also enjoyed woodworking, being a handyman, he was also a member of the Civic Club and was a 4-H leader in Dexter.
Survivors include daughter Jessica Henning and husband Ozz, son Travis Metzinger and wife Kelsey, daughter Valerie Becker and husband Brian, grandchildren Olivia Henning and Ellie Metzinger; siblings: Joe Metzinger and wife Kay, Chris Storm and husband David, Shauni Leftwich and husband Todd, Shandi Scales and husband Mark. He is preceded in death by his parents, Donald Lee and Vikki (Andes) Metzinger.
