Donald Lee Porter, 77, of Winfield, KS, passed away Tuesday, May 4, 2022 at Winfield Rest Haven.
Private graveside services will be held at the Oxford Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to the Winfield VFW Post 3544, donations may be left in the care of the Shelley Family Funeral Home of Winfield.
Don was born in Winfield, KS to parents Harvey Forest and Mary Helen (Carlton) Porter. In December of 1973 he was united in marriage in Oxford to the love of his life Marla Brown. Don worked at Frito Lay, Santa Fe Railroad, as a bartender at the Montego Club, Cessna Aircraft, he retired from Boeing after 29 ½ years of being an aircraft assembly crew chief. When Don wasn’t working he enjoyed cooking and smoking meats, riding motorcycles, fishing, and working on cars, especially a 1950 Plymouth he and his brother Phil totally restored. He was a member of Winfield Elks Lodge 732 and held every chair, he also was a member of American Legion Post 10 and VFW Post 3544 auxiliary.
Don is survived by his daughter Lori Applegate (Kirk), grandchildren Brandon and Sheena; great-grandchildren, Maddy, Cali, Stella, Sterling, Sunday, and Hayden; brother Kenneth Porter and wife Kendra, sisters; Carol Stoddard, Andrea Sheppard (Bob), Helen Dickerson (Don), and Norma Hayden.
He is preceded in by his wife, parents, and siblings: Tom, Leonard, Phil, Myrtle, Agnes, Juanita, Dorothy, and Sandra.
