Doris Mae Bailey, 96, of Arkansas City, KS passed away on Saturday, July 21, 2018 at her home.
Funeral Services will be held at 2:00 P.M. on Friday, July 27, at Shelley Family Funeral Home in Arkansas City. Burial will follow at Riverview Cemetery. No visitation is scheduled. Doris Mae was born on June 5, 1922 in Minneapolis, Minnesota the daughter of Leslie and Tresia (Amundson) McCormick. She was reared and educated in Minneapolis. She was united in marriage to Charles Bailey on July 14, 1947 in Ashland, KY and he preceded her in death on December 27, 1976. Doris lived in Mora for 27 years with her daughter-in-law, Bev Bailey, and granddaughter, Traci LeBrun, before moving to live with her daughter, Anna Fanberg and her husband, Eric. She spent the last 11 years of her life with them where she was loved and cherished. She worked as a housekeeper at the Kanabec Hospital in Mora, Minnesota for 27 years before retiring in 2003. She had just recently in November of 2017 moved to Kansas.
She was member of the Assembly of God Church in Mora, MN and the Mulvane Christian Church. She enjoyed her church activities, such as, bringing soup to the sick and her Ladies Bible study. She also started the meals for the sick program in Aitkin, MN. She will be deeply missed by her family.
Her family includes, her children, Frank E. Wheeler and wife Susan of Wichita, KS; Robert J. Younger of Wichita, KS and Anna Bailey Fanberg and husband Eric of Arkansas City; her brother; her 6 grandchildren, Traci LeBrun(Mark), Heather Spencer, Jonathon Bailey, Shawn Fanberg, Ben Wheeler and Matthew Fanberg(Kira); 17 great-grandchildren and 5 great-great grandchildren. In addition to her parents and husband she was preceded in death by her brother, Hallie McCormick and one son, Clark A Bailey.
