Duane Wilbur Arnett, 88, passed away Tuesday, April 19, 2023 at Wesley Woodlawn Hospital.
Graveside services will be held at 1:00 PM Monday, April 24, 2023 at Memorial Lawn Cemetery Arkansas City, Ks. No visitation is scheduled. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Legion, donations may be left in the care of the Shelley Family Funeral Home of Winfield.
Duane was born June 2, 1934 in Arkansas City, KS, to parents Alfred and Alice (Olsen) Arnett. He attended local grade and junior high school and graduated from Arkansas City High School in 1952. Duane joined the US Army in 1955, he was honorably discharged in 1958. He was united in marriage to Myra Jane and they welcomed two daughters, Peggy and Kathleen. The couple later divorced.
Duane was a lifelong resident of Arkansas City. He worked in the shipping and receiving warehouse of Struther’s Thermo Flood from 1975 until his retirement. He enjoyed fishing, camping, collecting model trains and tractors, and going to the K&O Gas and Steam Engine Show. He was a proud member of the American Legion Post #10 Arkansas City and the Early Day Gas Engine and Tractor Association.
Survivors include his daughters Kathleen Rae Norris and Peggy Joyce Blomquist, and nephews Chris M. Arnett and Eric R. Arnett. He is preceded in death by his parents, brother Don G. Arnett and great-nephew Samuel J. Arnett.
