Duane Earl Stone, 86, of Arkansas City, KS passed away Wednesday, June 7, 2023, at William Newton Memorial Hospital.
Duane was born in Arkansas City, KS on August 1, 1936, to parents Lon and Lillian (Woerz) Stone. Duane was raised in Ark City, and he attended local schools. On June 24, 1955, Duane was united in marriage to the love of his life, Veralene Juanita Carwile. He proudly served his country in the US Army from 1959-1961. Duane worked for Skyline for several years, he later ran “Stone’s” Campground, and sold used cars, portable buildings and built campers. He enjoyed working and keeping busy, as well as fishing, hunting, traveling, gardening, collecting an assortment of items, and taking care of his pets.
Duane is survived by his daughter Patricia Rymer, and son David Stone (Lois), grandchildren Becky Hay (Stacy), Ashley Lawson (Kyle), and Trenton Stone, nine great-grandchildren, and brother Paul Stone. He is preceded in death by his wife, parents, granddaughter Lisa Green, siblings Lavern Leseman, Norma Kelley, Phyllis Babcock, Marvin Stone, and Melba Turner, and son-in-law Jim Rymer.
According to Duane’s wishes, cremation will take place and there will be no public services. Memorial contributions for Duane may be made to the Cowley County Humane Society, donations may be left in the care of the Shelley Family Funeral Home.
