Eleanor Marie Land

Eleanor Marie Land, 81, of Torrance, CA passed away Wednesday July 3, 2019 at Torrance Memorial Medical Center.

Eleanor was born in Winfield, KS on July 19, 1937 to parents Boyd and Hazel Marie (Totten) Land. Growing up Eleanor attended the First Baptist Church of Winfield with her family. She attended local elementary schools and graduated from Winfield High School in 1955. She attended Oklahoma State University, where she graduated with a Bachelor’s Degree in Business. She was an active member of many collegiate groups and Alpha Chi Omega Sorority. 

After finishing college, Eleanor moved to California and worked in defense contracting at   Northrop Grumman in Torrance for over 40 years. She ended her career has an Executive Human Resources Manager. She was a talented, dedicated and beloved employee.

Eleanor enjoyed traveling with friends in Europe and throughout the U.S.  She loved music and  was an accomplished pianist. She loved playing golf and Scrabble and was an avid bridge player in several groups. She enjoyed traveling back to Winfield to attend many WHS class reunions. She remained very close friends to several WHS classmates and always enjoyed getting together at reunions and other opportunities. She was loved by family and many friends and will always be remembered as a wonderful and gracious person.

Eleanor was preceded in death by her mother, Hazel Land and her father, Boyd Land.

According to Eleanor’s wishes, cremation has taken place and her ashes have been scattered on her birthday.  A memorial service celebration of her life was held in Torrance, CA on July 19, 2019, the day she would have observed her 82nd birthday.

Arrangements were in care of Shelley Family Funeral Home of Winfield in coordination with a local funeral home in California.
