Elizabeth JoAn Beemer, 87, of Winfield, KS passed away Thursday, December 23, 2021, at Cumbernauld Village.
Graveside services will be held at 1:00 PM Monday, December 27, 2021 at the Mt. Olive Cemetery in Nardin, Oklahoma. Visitation will be held at the Shelley Family Funeral Home of Winfield from 6-7:30 PM Sunday, December 26, 2021. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Operation Christmas Child sponsored by Samaritan’s Purse. Donations may be left in the care of the Shelley Family Funeral Home.
JoAn was born on February 26, 1934 in Nardin, OK to parents Alva and Ersa (Lippincott) Gillispie, she graduated from South Haven High School and later attended Southwestern University of Weatherford, OK where she received her Bachelor of Education. On January 4, 1953 she was united in marriage to Thomas Parks, the couple later divorced. On September 4, 1993 she was united in marriage to Floyd Beemer in Windsor, MO. JoAn loved teaching and spent 35 years teaching as a reading specialist in kindergarten and 1st grade. She taught in Moore, OK, OKC and Arkansas City, KS. She was very proud to attend Purdue University as one of the head teachers involved in implementing the head start program. JoAn attended church wherever she called home and was always involved in being a Sunday school teacher, playing the piano and singing. She was the president of the American Legion Auxiliary in Windsor, MO. JoAn attended clown school after retiring and was known as “JoJo” the clown, she loved going to schools and nursing homes to brighten people’s day. Most of all, JoAn loved her Lord and being with her kids and grandchildren.
JoAn is survived by her children C. Randy Parks, Kendall Parks, Melody Parks, and John Parks, 7 grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren and brother Joe Gillispie. She is preceded in death by her husband Floyd, parents and 5 siblings.
