Elmer E. Morris, Jr., 91, of Arkansas City, passed away on Tuesday, August 7, 2018 at his home.
Cremation has taken place. A visitation time with family and friends will be from 5:00 P.M. to 7:00 P.M. on Tuesday, August 14, 2018 at Shelley Family Funeral Home of Arkansas City. A memorial in Elmer’s name for the Chaplin Nature Center and the Senior Citizens Center has been established. Contributions may be made through the funeral home.
Elmer was born on March 4, 1927 in Chanute, KS, the son of Elmer E., Sr. and Alice (Frame) Morris. He graduated from Capitol Hill High School in Oklahoma City. After high school, he graduated from Cowley County Community College and then Emporia State University with his Bachelor’s Degree. On April 30, 1949, he was united in marriage to Bruca Lee Bradley in Arkansas City. The couple made their home in Arkansas City. They had 3 children, Catherine, Bradley and Scott. In 1990, he retired as an engineer with Boeing Aircraft Co. of Wichita. His wife preceded him in death in 2011.
He enjoyed watching Big 12 football, KU basketball and professional golf and was an avid reader.
His family includes; his children, Catherine Morris Barnes and husband Bill of Whidbey Island, WA; Bradley W. Morris and wife Cheri and M. Scott Morris and wife Kathy both of Arkansas City and his grandchildren Michael W. Morris of Arkansas City, KS and Chris and Gina Andrews of Aurora, CO. In addition to his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by sister, Luralene Sargent; brother, Richard Morris; sister, Oleta Thornton and a grandson, Brian Andrews.
