Fayeann Sandstrum Obituary

Fayeann Sandstrum, 80, of Winfield passed away Monday, July 13, 2020 at Ascension Via Christi St. Francis Hospital in Wichita.

At a later date her family will hold private graveside services at Wilmot Cemetery. Memorial contributions for Fayeann may be made to the Cowley County Humane Society and Big Brothers Big Sisters of America, contributions may be left in care of the Shelley Family Funeral Home of Winfield – 803 Loomis St. Winfield, KS 67156.

Fayeann was born in Winfield, KS on October 23, 1939 to parents Philip and Evelyn (Garoutte) Sandstrum. Fayeann graduated from Winfield High School in 1956 and from K-State University in 1960, later earning a Master’s degree from Emporia State University. She enjoyed reading and spent most of her life teaching English, she primarily taught in Leavenworth and Wichita until she suffered an aneurysm and was forced to retire. Fayeann loved being involved in programs like Big Brothers Big Sisters of America and Girl Scouts, she was also a member of Prairie View Church.

Fayeann is survived by her brother Phil (Karen) Sandstrum, nieces: Michele (Manuel) Barron, Melissa (David) Green, Marla (Darryl) White, Amy (Danny) Winslow, Ashley (Braden) Moore; step-niece Penny (Kelly) Lister; 10 great-nieces and nephews; and good friends and care-givers Donna and Paula. She is preceded in death by her parents.
