Floyd Edward Mowbray, 78, of South Haven, Kansas, passed away peacefully on Thursday, July 30, 2020 at his home.
Graveside Military Funeral Services will be held at Rose Hill Cemetery in South Haven, KS at 10:00 A.M on Monday, August 3, 2020. A visitation and viewing service will be held on Sunday, August 2nd from 2:00 to 4:00 P.M. at Shelley Family Funeral Home in Arkansas City. A memorial has been established in Floyd’s name with the VFW Post 1254 of Arkansas City and the Music Department, South Haven USD 509. Contributions can be made through Shelley Family Funeral Home.
Floyd Edward Mowbray was born on October 23, 1941 in McPherson, KS the son of John E. and Leona Irene (Swenson) Mowbray. He was raised in Lindsborg, KS and graduated from high school there in 1959. He also graduated from Wichita Technical Institute. On April 20, 1968, he was united in marriage to Dixie Lee Lathers in Arkansas City. That same year, on May 13, 1968, Floyd joined the Kansas Army National Guard and served during the Vietnam War. He was honorably discharged and returned home to Arkansas City, KS. The couple made their home in South Haven and raised two daughters, Leslie and Lana; as well as a bonus daughter, exchange student, Trine. Floyd worked for AT&T for 37 years; Pre-Mac in Wellington for a time, Smith Tools for 10 years. Floyd was a farmer his entire lifetime. He was a member of the South Haven Christian Church, where he served as an Elder/Deacon and the VFW Post 1254, where he served on the Honor Guard. Floyd also served on the South Haven School Board. He enjoyed his work farming the land; going to the coffee shop; farm auctions; Bingo at the VFW and visiting the neighbors.
Surviving to honor his memory is his wife, Dixie Lee of 52 years; his daughters; Leslie Brazle (Justin) of Winfield, KS; Lana George (David) of Ponca City, OK and Trine Korsgaard (Kennet) of Denmark; his brother, Virgil Mowbray (Jane) of Ardmore, OK; his sister, Erma Mowbray of McPherson, KS; his grandchildren, Zane and Cutter Brazle and Rance Crawford all of Winfield, KS; Ben Winburn of Ponca City, OK and Marie and Karoline Korsgaard of Denmark; his brother-in-law, Vern Schneider of New Cambria, KS and sister-in-law, Dela Mowbray of Bellingham, WA as well as numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, brother, Cleo Mowbray and sister, Cleta Schneider.
