G. Dolores "Dodi" (Whiteman) Copeland

G. Dolores “Dodi” Copeland, 92, of Arkansas City, KS, passed away on Tuesday morning, May 26, 2020 at Medicalodges of Arkansas City. 

Cremation has taken place and a come and go celebration of life visitation service will be held from 12:00 noon- 2:00 P.M. on Tuesday, June 2, 2020 at Hope Cemetery, west of Arkansas City.   The family will hold a private inurnment service following the visitation. 

Dodi was born on June 14, 1927 on the farm east of rural Atlanta, KS. She was the second of 4 children born to Orville John and Anna Alberta (Calvin) Whiteman.   She was raised on that dairy farm and graduated from high school in Atlanta in 1945.  After high school she attended the William Newton Memorial Hospital School of Nursing and graduated a registered nurse on June 20th, 1948.  The week before that she married the love of her life, John D. Copeland, Jr. on June 11, 1948.   The couple made their home in Arkansas City, where she worked as a surgical nurse at the Memorial Hospital. The couple raised three boys, Tim, Greg and Chris.  She would work a full day at the hospital, get supper on the table and always have time to play ball with her boys.   After retirement, she enjoyed being a foster grandparent at Roosevelt Elementary school.  Her hobbies and interest included, hummingbirds and bird watching, flower gardening, cooking fabulous dishes and being with children and grandchildren.   She also enjoyed her work at the Friends Church, helping with the blood drives and learning her cosmetology skills.  

Her family includes her sons, Tim Copeland and wife Linda of Lindsborg, KS and Chris Copeland and wife Gayle of Geuda Springs, KS; her 7 grandchildren, Ryan Copeland and wife Mary of St. Joseph, MO, Jennifer Copeland and Bobby Richardson of Arkansas City, Isaac Copeland of McPherson, KS, Jessica Dorman and husband Robby of Arkansas City, Katie Pina and husband Nick of Wichita, KS, Kelly Copeland of Wichita, KS and Hosteen Tsosie and wife Stacy of Arkansas City, KS; her 17 great-grandchildren and 1 great-great grandson.  She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, 2 sisters, Helen and Betty, one brother, Bruce; as well as one son, Greg Copeland.
