George Wilbern Lovell Jr. (Butch) died in Arkansas City, KS June 9, 2023 at the age of 84 after a long struggle with Alzheimer’s Disease. He was a resident of the Arkansas City Presbyterian Manor.
Born March 12, 1939, in Arkansas City, Kansas to George Wilbern Lovell and Faynona Christine Mitchell. He graduated from Arkansas City High School Class of 1957 and he graduated from Oklahoma State University in 1961 with a Bachelor's degree in Business Administration. Butch milked dairy cattle at an early age and then worked as a fireman on the Santa Fe Railroad while in college. He farmed with his father and his family, raising wheat, cattle and row crops. He was united in marriage to Judith Ann Coulter (Judy) on August 24, 1960, celebrating 62 years together they have two children, Kay and Michel.
Butch was a member of the Cherokee Strippers Camper Club and enjoyed RVing in his later years. One of his favorite trips was to Mexico where the RV’s were placed on a train. He was accompanied by his good friends Paul and Jackie Everett as well as Chuck and Susan DeMoss.
Butch is survived by his wife, Judy, children Kay (Tim) Shaver, and Michel (Angie) Lovell, grandchildren Dawson (Shanthi) Shaver, Drea Shaver, Lexie (Lucas) Santefort and great-grandchild Lydia Lovell Santefort and many nieces and nephews.
Memorial services will be held at 10:00 A.M. Saturday, June 17, 2023 at the Shelley Family Funeral Home of Arkansas City, the family will greet friends at the funeral home following services. Private interment services will take place at Memorial Lawn Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, please donate to Presbyterian Manor and Harry Hynes Hospice, donations may be left in the care of the funeral home.
