Gordon Rowley Obituary

Gordon Carol Rowley, 81, of Winfield, KS passed away Saturday, August 20, 2022 at Winfield Senior Living Community.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 P.M. Thursday, August 25, 2022 at the Hackney Community Baptist Church, burial will follow at the New Salem Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 5-7 P.M. Wednesday, August 23 at the Shelley Family Funeral Home of Winfield. Memorial contributions for Gordon may be made to the Hackney Community Baptist Church (Foyer Fund), donations may be left in the care of the funeral home.

Gordon was born July 18, 1941 in McAlester, OK the son of Henry and Mildred (Roberson) Rowley. He grew up in Kiowa, OK, his family eventually moved to Liberal, KS where he graduated high school in 1959; later he earned a Bachelor’s in Education from St. Mary of the Plains College in 1990. Gordon married the love of his life, Kathy Bailey, on February 27, 1960 in Ashland, OK. Gordon worked for Panhandle Eastern and the Southwest Daily Times as a printer, and later at the Liberal Office Machines of Liberal, KS where he worked for over 20 years. Following Gordon’s retirement from Liberal Office Machines in 2005 he and Kathy moved to Winfield where Gordon enjoyed helping with his son-in-law, Kevin Coon’s business ventures. To say Gordon loved sports would be an understatement; he was an avid tennis player, a diehard OU fan, and he loved going to football games. He even had the opportunity to try out for the Pittsburg Pirates. Gordon enjoyed being outdoors, woodworking, attending Hackney Community Baptist Church, and he genuinely enjoyed serving others.

Survivors include his wife, Kathy Rowley; children Randy Rowley and wife Martha, Carol Coon, and Charles Rowley and wife Kim; grandchildren: Zac, Amancha, Lila, and Sadie; sister Gail Davis and husband Roger; brother-in-law Dean Bailey; and numerous nieces, nephews and extended family members. Gordon is preceded in death by his parents and son-in-law Kevin Coon.
