Harley George Wood, 75, of Arkansas City passed away Saturday, December 25, 2021 at Presbyterian Manor of Arkansas City.
Harley was born December 28, 1945 in Detroit, MI the son of Harley Howard Wood and Georgina Amy (Russell) Wood. He graduated from high school in Michigan and lived in Dearborn, Oak Park and Elizabeth Lake, MI. Harley worked as a delivery man for A to Z Bumper Auto parts in Detroit. As a younger man, Harley enjoyed square dancing, bowling, and watching sports, especially his beloved Red Wings hockey team.
When his longtime companion, Shirley Friedman, experienced health issues, Harley moved to the Presbyterian Manor in Arkansas City, KS. He enjoyed being involved in all the activities at the Manor, especially playing dominoes, bingo, and most recently “Chicken Foot” which he played daily.
Harley is survived by his three brothers: Gary Wood and wife Lee of Texas, Dr. Jeff Wood and wife Yazmin of Arkansas City, and Tom Wood of Florida, as well as numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and a sister.
According to Harley’s wishes, cremation has taken place. A celebration of life service was held Wednesday, January 5th at Presbyterian Manor of Arkansas City. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Presbyterian Manor Good Samaritan Fund. Arrangements are in the care of the Shelley Family Funeral Home of Arkansas City.
