Harold “Dave” Rhodes, 79, of Arkansas City, KS, suffered a fall & went to join the Lord on Tuesday, April 30, 2024, at his home.
Funeral services will be held at 11 AM Monday, May 6, 2024 at the Shelley Family Funeral Home of Arkansas City. As Dave was a casual man, the family encourages guests to dress casually and comfortable. Private graveside services will follow. Visitation will be held from 1-3 PM on Sunday May 5th at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to Ark City Senior Center or the Walnut Valley Woodcarvers and left in the care of the funeral home.
Dave was born on July 23, 1944 in Ark City to parents Dan and Pearl (McBride) Rhodes. He graduated from Ark City High School & served his country in the Army National Guard. Dave married the love of his life, Linda Tidwell, in 1967. He was known to have never removed his wedding ring in their 56 years together. Dave served as a firefighter in Ark City and later worked at Total Petroleum, Columbia elevator, and doing delivery for Taylor Drug.
Dave was an avid woodworker & was proud to have made a lovely cradle for his first grandchild, MaKayla. Dave also loved reading, walking, completing a 1000-piece jigsaw puzzle per week & playing with his beautiful grandchildren. In recent years he developed a passion for wood carving and was honored with several blue ribbons.
Dave is survived by his wife, sons: Troy Rhodes (Rachel) and Brandon Rhodes. Grandchildren: MaKayla (Chase), Caden (Danielle), Norman, Kallie & Gracen; great-grandchildren: Cameron and Breeland; siblings: Danny, Diane, Dale, Delores, Dick (Judy) and Dennis (Margie); as well as Britnay Guevara and his best friend, Ken Miller.
He is preceded in death by his parents, siblings, Dean, Donald and Darlene and granddaughter Ashlyn Rhodes.
