James "J.D." Feaster Obituary

James “J.D.” Feaster, 99, of Wellington, passed away December 5, 2019 at Harry Hynes Memorial Hospice in Wichita, KS.

Memorial services will be held at 2:00 P.M., Monday, December 9, 2019 at the First Christian Church in Wellington, KS. No visitation is scheduled. In lieu of flowers memorials have been established with Harry Hynes Memorial Hospice and Brookdale of Wellington and may be left with the Shelley Family Funeral Home 704 N. Washington, Wellington, KS 67152.    

J.D. was born January 30, 1920, the son of Clarence Everett “C.E.” and Lydia (Gold) Feaster in Wichita, KS. He graduated from Oxford High School in 1938 and worked at the family business, Oxford Sand & Gravel Company. He served in Europe in World War II from 1941 to 1946 as an officer in the Army Corps of Engineers. J.D. was united in marriage with Maxine Matthews on April 10, 1946. They moved to Wellington in 1960 as owners of the Wellington Ready Mix until his retirement in 1996. J.D. was a private pilot, golfer, fisherman and enjoyed skiing. He was an executive director at the First Federal Savings and Loan in Wellington, president of Kansas Ready Mix Concrete Association, past president of Wellington Rotary Club, Wellington Chamber of Commerce, Wellington Industrial Development Commission, and the Wellington Centennial Celebration (1971). J.D. was a member of the Wellington Elks Club (1972-1978), B.P.O.E., Wellington Methodist Episcopal Church, Tall Grass Country Club (Wichita) and the American Legion.  He was very involved in the Wellington community and was loved and respected by all who knew him. J.D. was united in marriage with Maurene (Murphy) Saffell on April 20, 1996.   

J.D. is survived by his loving wife, Maurene of the home; son, Philip Feaster (Kathleen) of Monte Castello di Vibio, Italy; sister, Audry Barron of Hemet, CA; 5 grandchildren: Jay Feaster (Jessica) of Denver, CO, Cody Feaster of Chicago, IL, Max Feaster (Rebekah) of Ft. Worth, TX, Carl Feaster of Boulder, CO and Daniel Feaster of Albuquerque, NM; and 3 great grandchildren: Quinn, Chase and Cassidy Feaster; 5 step children, 15 step-grandchildren and 14 step great-grandchildren.

He is preceded in death by his parents, his first wife, Maxine in March of 1994, son, Stephen James Feaster, 2 brothers and 1 sister, a stepchild and step grandchild.
