Janet Matthews Obituary

Janet Anne Matthews, 84, of Ponca City, OK, passed away Sunday, August 14th, 2022.

Private family services will be held at Parker Cemetery. A memorial has been established in Janet’s name with Love A Child Inc. Contributions may be left in the care of the Shelley Family Funeral Home of Arkansas City.

Janet Anne Matthews was born on January 20th, 1938 to Ralph and Hazel (Payne) Matthews. Janet graduated from Capital Hill High School and took some courses at NOC before beginning her lifelong career as a secretary. She raised three children. She enjoyed sewing, embroidery, cooking, reading, assisting the elderly, and babysitting. She was proud of winning first place in the southern wide states sword drill contest in North Carolina in 1951. She was a member of the Homemakers Club, and Sunset Baptist Church.

Janet is survived by her daughter Debra (Lynne) Fox, sister Carol Preedin, four grandchildren, and six great-grandchildren. She is preceded in death by her parents, daughter Margaret Fox, and her son Michael Fox.
