John Sim Greenwood, 73, of Arkansas City, KS passed away on March 27, 2025 with his family surrounding him.
Funeral services will be held at 4:00 PM on Thursday, April 3, 2025, at the Shelley Family Funeral Home of Arkansas City. Visitation will be held from 6-8 PM Wednesday, April 2, at the funeral home. Graveside services will be held at 1:00 PM Friday, April 4, at the Greenwood Family Cemetery in Reagan, OK. Memorial contributions may be made to the Cowley County Humane Society; donations may be left in the care of the funeral home.
John was born on September 15, 1951 in Arkansas City, KS to parents Esau Keel and Nora (Ned) Greenwood. He attended Newkirk schools until 7th grade and later Ark City schools until graduating in 1970. He worked for his father from the age of 4-14 on the family farm until he had to focus on schooling. John was united in marriage to Pattie McDaniel, the couple later divorced but remained very close. He worked at Rodeo Meats, for the railroad, and Greif Manufacturing until retiring in 2013. John enjoyed fishing, watching football, baseball, and the Price Is Right, sharpening knives, working on mowers, and attending powwows. John loved a good steak, a cold beer, and most of all spending time with his family, and his beloved dog, Oso, who never left his side.
Survivors include his children: Tasha Hall, Josh Greenwood, Jamie Kuhn (Mike), Jodie Jowers (Chris); grandchildren: Micah, Kaylynn, Kenzie, Addison, Hayden, Jonathan, Michael, Kurstin, Hazelynn, and Devin; great-grandchildren: Landon, Dallas, and Elizabeth.
John is preceded in death by his parents, sister Mariel “Babe” Greenwood, and former spouse Pattie.
