John Wayne Samms, 78, of Winfield, KS passed away November 28, 2024 at Winfield Senior Living Community.
Private graveside services will be held at a later date at the Burden, KS cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to the Cowley County Humane Society, donations may be left in the care of the Shelley Family Funeral Home of Winfield.
John was born on May 20, 1946 in Salem, IL, to parents Charles W. and Ruth D. (Luck) Samms. He graduated from Winfield High School and in July 1989 was united in marriage to Pat Galleher. John worked at D&D Farm Equipment as a technician for many years, he also owned two service stations, Phillips 66 and Champlin. He then went to work for GE, where he retired as an inspector in 2009. John enjoyed fishing, working on cars, and collecting John Deere memorabilia; he was a member of the Winfield VFW and American Legion.
John is survived by his siblings, Robert Samms, Alice Kaul (Jim), Sue Adams (Kevin), and Wes Samms (Beverly), and grandchildren Brittany, Amber, and stepchildren Tonya, and Daniel.
John is preceded in death by his parents, wife, and son, Jimmy Samms.
