Johnnie Lee Hurt, 71, of Winfield passed away Saturday, September 8, 2018 at Via Christi St. Francis Hospital.
Funeral services will be at 2 PM Thursday, September 13 at the Shelley Family Funeral Home of Winfield. Burial will follow at Mt. Vernon Cemetery in Winfield. The family will greet friends from 6-8 PM on Wednesday, September 12 at the funeral home. Memorial contributions in Johnnie’s name may be made to the Shelley Family Funeral Home to defray expenses.
Johnnie Lee was born in Floresville, Texas on October 23, 1946 the son of Mattie Lorene (Bradshaw) and George Roger Hurt, Sr. He attended Southeast College and received a GED in Auto Mechanics. Johnnie owned and operated A-1 Muffler Shop in Duncan, Oklahoma, was a truck driver for 20 years and he worked as a flag man for Cowley County. On December 30th, 1990 Johnnie was united in marriage with Glenda Howard in Marlow, Oklahoma. He was known as a motorcycle and antique car enthusiast, his favorites being Hondas, Harleys and old trucks. Johnnie enjoyed dirt track racing and fishing, he was a member of the Church of God and was a jokester who never knew a stranger.
He is survived by his wife Glenda, children: Lyndol and Lisa Marney, Trish and Joe Clinton, and Darla Denton; grandchildren: Brad and April Denton, Josh and Rachel Clinton, Amanda Marney, Matt Clinton, Michael Marney, Jonathan Gilbreth, Jacob Marney, and Katie Marney; great-grandchildren: Marcus, Amelia, Emilynn, Cassidy, Elizabeth, Damien, and Lillian; brother George Roger Hurt, Jr. and wife Ella. Johnnie is preceded in death by his parents and baby sister Priscilla Anne.
