Julia Lou Sheck

Julia Lou Sheck, 84, of Wichita, KS, went to meet Jesus on Sunday, March 23, 2025, surrounded by her family.

A celebration of life will be held at 11:00 AM Saturday, March 29, 2025, at Riverwalk Church of Christ in Wichita. Memorial contributions may be made to Riverwalk Church of Christ. Donations may be left in the care of the Shelley Family Funeral Home of Winfield.

Julia was born on September 25, 1940, in Harlan, IA to parents Francis Benton Plumb and Gretchen Ruth (Parker) Plumb. After graduating high school, she nannied for Pat Boone’s four girls in Hollywood. Then she attended York College where she met and was united in marriage to Jan Mauck. She attended cosmetology school while pregnant with their first born. They later moved to South Africa as missionaries and raised their three kids there for ten years. After returning to the States, she started her career at Walmart, where she worked for over 30 years. In 1990 she was blessed again by another great man and was united in marriage to Ken Sheck; they prioritized family blending their seven adult children and families seamlessly, it is a priceless gift to be forever treasured. 

Julia’s foundation was in Christ, she loved her Bible, memorizing scripture (including all of Ephesians), creating Bible trivia for her grandchildren, teaching Sunday school, leading ladies Bible studies, volunteering to do hair at nursing homes, and showing the love and joy of Christ in how she lived each day. She was truly a giver at heart and would give every last thing away if anyone told her they had a need. Julia had a great sense of humor and was always smiling and teasing. As the second of twelve children, family was everything to her, she loved cooking for them, going to grandkids’ sporting events, and spending as much time with loved ones as possible.

Julia is survived by her children, Shay Mauck (Joan), Cory Mauck, Kelly Rose (Brian), Stephanie Kucharo (Tim), Kevin Sheck (Tami), Cindy Ritchie (Kevin), Anita Wertz (David), 21 grandchildren, Ryan (Loretta) Kucharo, Chelsey Mauck, Lindsey (R.C) Smith, Ben (Leah) Mauck, Nathan (Annabel) Kucharo, Jorden (Diantha) Mauck, Gareth (Jenna) Mauck, Elizabeth (Jon) Sheck-Lambert, Dylan (Bailey) Rose, Brent Kucharo, Katie (Tomi) Lorik, Kyle Sheck, Raylee (Benael) Jean-Louis, Paige Ritchie, Emily Sheck, Gavin Rose, Joshua (Hannah) Wertz, Braden Rose, Karson (Hayleigh) Ritchie, Kraig Sheck, 15 great-grandchildren, Jacob Kucharo, Tyler Kucharo, Kyle Smith, Brooke Kucharo, Olivia Mauck, Lucas Mauck, Theodora Mauck, Sona Rose, Braden Kucharo, Judah Kucharo, Coast Rose, Nathan Mauck, Eleanor Kucharo, Cora Rose, Moses Jean-Louis, with 3 more already on the way, siblings Ben Plumb (Betsy), Phillip Plumb, Al Plumb (Diane), Steve Plumb (Kathy), Sue Hawkins (Don), Lori Baughman (Jim), and Paul Plumb (Michelle). 

She is preceded in death by her parents, husbands, siblings Jan Buthman (Jack), Patty Sue Plumb, Rich Plumb (Janet), Phyllis Jean Plumb, (Phyllis Ann Plumb), and grandson Konner Ritchie.
