Kathy “Kat” M. Goad, 76, of Burden, KS, passed away on Monday morning, September 9, 2024 at her home.
Kat was born July 30, 1948 in Torrance, CA at the Harbor General Hospital. She was the daughter of Betty Jo (Garrison) and Ralph Hales. She grew up moving from place to place due to her father being in the Army. Kat worked many different jobs in her life. She could weld, managed restaurants, cooked in nursing homes, and built bulletproof vests, but her favorite job was being a domestic engineer (a housewife and mother).
She lived in California until moving to Oklahoma in 1975. Kat met her husband, Charles Goad, in Tulsa, OK on October 17, 1976. They were married June 24, 1977 in Miami, OK. The couple moved their family and dog to Wichita, KS on account of Charles’s job in 1983, they lived in Kansas ever since.
She loved going for rides just to see wildlife and scenery, shooting pool and going fishing. She had several pool trophies, and her husband fondly remembers the time she caught a 2 ½ pound trout on a piece of cheese pizza from Pizza Hut. He is sure she is going into heaven now saying a quote from one of her favorite movies, “I’m your Huckleberry.”
Kat is preceded in death by her parents, Ralph and Betty Jo Hales, father and mother-in-law J.N. and Alice Goad, grandson Elijah Goad, son-in-law Shay Scranton, and several aunts, uncles, and cousins.
Survivors include her husband Charles Goad of Burden, KS; brother Mike Hales and wife Juley of Atlanta, GA; sister-in-law Louise Haney and husband Curtis of Sand Springs, OK; son Stephen Goad of Wilmington, NC; son Michael Goad of Burden, KS; daughter Shellie Scranton of Wichita, KS; son Rusty Goad and wife Erica of Vinita, OK; grandsons Cory Goad of Winfield, KS, Kayden Goad of Vinita, OK, and Sammy Scranton of Wichita, KS; granddaughters Baileigh Goad of Burden, KS, Emma Goad of Vinita, OK; great-granddaughter Riley Goad of Winfield, KS; and several nephews and cousins.
Memorial services will be held at 10:30 AM Saturday, September 21, 2024 at the Shelley Family Funeral Home of Winfield. Memorial contributions may be made to the Shelley Family Funeral Home of Winfield to defray funeral expenses.
