Linda Sue (Aker) Helin

Linda Sue (Aker) Helin, 80, of Arkansas City, KS went home to Jesus on Saturday, May 6, 2023.

Linda was born October 1, 1942 in Arkansas City, KS the daughter of Homer and Dorothy (Jones) Aker. She attended school in Arkansas City and took college courses at Cowley County Community College. Linda was united in marriage to Joseph Wiegman, and to this union, five children were born, the couple later divorced. Linda would later marry the love of her life, Donald Helin. She worked at the Winfield State Hospital, several local nursing homes, and the Cowley County Mental Health Center, mainly as a case worker. Linda was passionate about helping people and serving others. Linda was very supportive of veterans and with both of her husbands serving in the military, Linda became very active in the local VFW and American Legion Auxiliary. She was also an involved member of the 1st Southern Baptist Church of Arkansas City, which she joined as a teenager. Linda will be remembered for her love of art and “pushing paint around”, her friendly attitude and kind smile, and for being a hardworking, loving caregiver, mother, and grandmother.

Survivors include her children Donna Edwards (Danny), Joe Wiegman, Angie Williams (Charlie), John Wiegman (Sandi), and Susan Popchoke, as well as numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and five great-great-grandchildren. Linda is preceded in death by her parents, husband Donald, brother Arthur Aker, and daughter-in-law Cari Wiegman.

Private family services will be held at a later date. Memorial contributions for Linda may be made to Harry Hynes Memorial Hospice, donations may be left in the care of the Shelley Family Funeral Home of Arkansas City.
