Lora Barkus Obituary

Lora Ann Barkus, a faithful servant of the Almighty One in Heaven, passed away at the age of 53 on Saturday evening, December 30, 2023.

Lora was born September 18, 1970, in Alton, Illinois, to parents Daniel Allen Lyons and Patricia Ann Winters Lyons.  She graduated from Goddard High School, Goddard, Kansas, and completed a bachelor’s degree in education at Newman University, Wichita, Kansas.

Lora had an abundance of professional work history.  She was a Licensed Mental Health Technician at the Winfield State Hospital and then became a Para at South Vernon Schools while completing her bachelor’s degree in education. She was also a Licensed Insurance & Securities Agent for Primerica serving many clientele throughout Kansas and Oklahoma. Lora began her teaching career for Winfield School District, serving South Vernon, Pleasant Valley, Lowell, Sixth & Seventh Grade Center, and Winfield High School.  Lora ended her public-school teaching career in 2010 to become a homemaker, begin her evangelistic adventures, and assist her husband with their Construction Company, Barkus Construction Services.  Additionally, Lora home-schooled her grandchild as well as numerous other children through the Wuhan Lab Plandemic.

Lora was united in marriage to the love of her life and soul mate, Boyd Ray Barkus, on May 2, 1992, at the Slate Valley Church.  She was a loving wife to Boyd and a loving mother to her miracle son, Stephen Ray Barkus, a devoted daughter to her mother, Patricia Ann Winters and a devoted grandmother to her grandchildren Kyson Michael Barkus and Kingston Ray Barkus.  Lora was also a second mother to her beautiful daughter-in-law, Dana Barkus.

Lora survived two brain surgeries as a child as well as underwent two open-heart surgeries, one while giving birth to her son, Stephen.  These events developed Lora’s faith in her Holy Father, and she continued to fulfill her earthly duties serving her savior while serving her God, family and community.

Lora enjoyed gardening, canning, cooking, baking, listening to worship music, and most of all, she enjoyed teaching children, as she believed God’s word should touch our little, innocent children’s hearts first before the world does. Lora distributed Bibles to people on Halloween with her husband and wanted to continue serving God by spreading the Word and Bibles to underprivileged children throughout the year. Currently, Lora was developing a Not-For-Profit Organization, “Wisdom Warriors.”  The mission of the organization is to spread the Word of Jesus by distributing bibles.  The family will continue the organization as part of Lora’s legacy. Shortly before her passing, she was thrilled to learn her son Stephen and Dana are expecting a child in 2024.

Lora strived for a simple life.  Her priorities were always God, family and friends.  She will always be remembered as a Warrior of God, a true believer, a voice for what is right, and a teacher of love.  She will be missed forever and ever.

Lora is survived by her husband, Boyd Ray Barkus, her son, Stephen Ray Barkus, daughter-in-law, Dana Barkus, two grandchildren, Kyson Michael and Kingston Ray Barkus, her mother, Patricia Ann Winters, all of Winfield, Kansas.  Lora is also survived by her brothers, Daniel Lyons, Jr., Michael and Joey Lyons, her Aunt Jean Henman of Rose Hill, Uncle, Michael Winters, nephews, Dustin and Christopher Lyons, niece Hope Lyons, numerous cousins including Carla Maccarone, Debbie Garrison, Christina and Heather Williams, Charles L. Winters, Jr.
