Marcia Vargas Obituary

Marcia Joan Vargas, 65, of Winfield, KS passed away November 13, 2022 at Wesley Medical Center.

Memorial services will be held at 1:30 Thursday, November 17, 2022 at Trinity Lutheran Church of Winfield. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Trinity Lutheran Church, and donations may be left in the care of the Shelley Family Funeral Home.

Marcia was born on January 10, 1957 in Leroy, KS to parents Roger and Bernita (Becker) Crome. She attended high school at Leroy, KS, and later received her associate of Arts degree from St. Johns College with a focus on parish work. On February 11, 1978 she was united in marriage to the love of her life, Thomas Vargas. Marcia worked at the Winfield public library for over 38 years.

Anyone who knew Marcie knows how much she loved the Lord and her family. Her faith in the Lord was steadfast and strong, and she shared it with everyone around her.  Her love was poured into taking care of others through food, humor, and sound advice.  Marcie loved to cook and she has fed nearly every person in Winfield, KS with her delicious cream-cheese desserts or Mexican dishes.  She also loved to crochet and would gift her treasures to loved ones – from blankets to bags to stuffed animals.  Marcie gave all of her spare time to her family.  She treasured family time, always making sure to attend reunions, baptisms, birthday celebrations, family vacations, baseball games, and other milestones.  She also always – ALWAYS -  had a Route 44 Sonic Unsweet Tea, lemon and extra ice, in her hand. Marcie loved her Royals and her Chiefs, and she converted her grandchildren to be lifelong fans too.  When she wasn’t out of town with family you could find Marcie at the Winfield Library or at Trinity Lutheran Church in the 2nd pew. She had an amazing bond with her siblings and loved spending time with her sisters. She was married to Tommy Jo Vargas for 41 years. Her & Tommy’s 4 boys were the center of their universe, 2nd only to their grandchildren. If you asked Marcie what her greatest accomplishments were, she would brag on her family. Marcie was kind, loving, accepting, wise, hilarious, clever, honest, and compassionate.  Her infectious laugh, quick wit, and genuine connections touched so many.

Marcie is survived by her husband, her sons Andrew Vargas (Angela) Ben Vargas (Brandy), Nathan Vargas (Santi) and Cody Vargas (Ryann). Grandchildren Andrew, Cooper, Adelyn, Jackson, Cole, Julian, Adrian, Aliyana, Rider, Malachi and Adonis. Siblings; Alan Crome (Jean), Cathi Temple, Stan Crome (Mary), Cindy Hill, Lucy Kettler (Curtis), Mari Townsend (Dick), Owen Crome, and Randy Crome (Kathy),

She is preceded in death by her parents and brothers-in-law, Bill Hill and Phil Temple.
