Mary K. (Degner) Mai

Mary K. (Degner) Mai, 94, passed away peacefully Tuesday, October 8, 2019 at her home in Winfield.

Mary K. Mai was born on June 1, 1925 in Jennings, OK to loving parents Richard and Kathryn (Stumpf) Degner. She attended grade school in Oklahoma and later the family moved to Great Bend, KS where she graduated from high school, afterwards she attended Great Bend Junior College and was a member of Beta Sigma Phi. Mary was married to Karl Mai Sr. on June 18, 1949 in Great Bend. Mary was an avid golfer, she started in 1970 and was a member of the Quail Ridge Club; she attended the Winfield Coffee Club, was a member of the Newman Book club and the Holy Name Altar Society. Mary also served as a Pink Lady for 10 years at the William Newton Hospital.

Surviving to honor her memory are her children: Karl Mai Jr., Jan Dreiling and Kent Mai and 13 grandchildren.

She is preceded in death by her husband Karl, her parents, a sister Helena Wallace and 3 brothers, Herman, Otto and Franklin.

Funeral Mass will be held at 10:30 A.M. Friday, October 11, 2019 at Holy Name Catholic Church in Winfield, the rosary will be prior to the mass at 10 A.M. Burial will take place at 11 A.M. Saturday, October 12 at the Russell, Kansas Cemetery. Memorial contributions in Mary’s name may be made to the Holy Name Catholic Church and Holy Name Catholic School, contributions may be left in care of the Shelley Family Funeral Home of Winfield.
