Mary Lou Smock, 90, passed away peacefully Monday, December 5, 2022 at Alderbrook Village of Arkansas City.


Memorial services will be at 10:00 A.M. Saturday, December 17, 2022, at the Shelley Family Funeral Home of Winfield. Memorial contributions may be made to the Foster Grandparents Program of Cowley & Butler County, donations may be left in the care of the funeral home.


Mary was born in Oklahoma City on May 2, 1932 the daughter of Herbert and Mildred (Means) Smither. She was raised in Midwest City and after the death of her mother, lived with family in Winfield, KS, where she graduated from high school in 1950. She married Donald Wayne Parker in 1952, they divorced in 1975.  Married Gene Smock in 1985 and later divorced in 2011.  Mary worked for Boeing and Cessna Aircraft.  She was a Girl Scout Leader, volunteered at Eagles Nest, and later enjoyed being a foster grandparent for USD 465. Mary enjoyed gardening, camping, fishing, birdwatching, sewing, and cooking. She was a member of the 1st Church of Christ, Scientist of Ark City.


Survivors include her daughters Sheryl Gulick and husband Christopher, Kathy Stout and husband Tom, and Debbie Walker and husband David; grandchildren: Sara Lamb, Jillian Person, Jennifer Phillips, Michael Stout, T.J. Stout, Kaitlyn Kearns, and Abigail Kearns; and 8 great-grandchildren.


Mary is preceded in death by her parents and her sister Betty Atchley.
