Michael Dean Gillock, 58, of Arkansas City, passed away Wednesday, July 14, 2021 at his home, surrounded by his family.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM Monday, July 19 at the Shelley Family Funeral Home of Arkansas City, interment will follow at Riverview Cemetery. Visitation will be from 3-5 PM Sunday, July 18 at the funeral home. Donations in memory of Mike may be made to the VFW Post 1254 and Harry Hynes Memorial Hospice, contributions may be left in care of the funeral home.
Mike was born November 15, 1962 in New London, CT the son of Dan and Dixie (Madsen) Gillock. He was baptized in the Episcopal Church. He graduated from Arkansas City High School in 1981. After graduating, Mike served in the US Navy for 4 years, with an honorable discharge in 1985. He was aboard the aircraft carrier, USS Carl Vinson (CV70) in the Fuels division, and he was able to make the world tour, touring the 7 seas. Mike is also a plank owner of the carrier. He worked in the plastics manufacturing industry, he was a part of Rubbermaid for 11 years, and the Kansas Plastics/ Tramec Plastics and Composites for 23 years. On January 9, 1998 Mike was united in marriage to Lanette “Lanie” Seal in Miami, OK.
He was a proud veteran and was honored to be a part of the local American Legion and VFW. Mike was an avid fisherman and deer hunter, he enjoyed gardening, watching NASCAR and was a devoted Nebraska Cornhusker football fan.
Mike is survived by his wife Lanie Gillock of Arkansas City, children Casey Daniel and Kayla Michelle of Arkansas City, mother Dixie Gillock of Arkansas City, brother Robert Gillock and wife Deborah of New Jersey, sister Michelle Howell and husband Dave of Augusta, and 5 grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his father Dan Gillock, brother Charles Gillock, and his grandparents.
