Monty Troutman Obituary

Monty Lynn Troutman, 68, of Wellington, Kansas passed away peacefully at his home on April 7, 2020.  He was born on October 12, 1951 in Wellington, Kansas to Arlis & Dorothy (Nichols) Troutman.  Monty graduated from Belle Plaine High School in 1969 and Kansas State University in 1973 with a Bachelor's degree in Accounting.

When Monty was younger, he was involved in 4H, sports, and helping his Dad on the farm.  He told many stories of building hog houses and doing whatever he needed to do to help on their family farm. In high school, he played football and basketball, he was named homecoming king, and in the top of his class. When he went to Kansas State, he played football in 1969 for the Wildcats.

Monty married the love of his life, Carol Nichols, on June 5, 1971.  They celebrated almost 49 years of marriage.  When they were married, they moved to Manhattan to live and work while Monty finished school.  They enjoyed going to Vista Burger on Friday nights and they have many wonderful memories with family and friends.  Monty and Carol loved taking road trips to Las Vegas.

Monty was a man of many talents.  Immediately after graduating Kansas State, his job at Montgomery Ward, moved him & Carol to Great Bend and on to Liberal before returning back to Wellington.  He then went on to work for Boeing, where one is his greatest accomplishments was working on the Air Force One plane before George Bush and then again later for its remodel.   He worked on manufacturing plans for planes and could figure out issues before any computer could.  When he was tired of “marking off time” as he would put it, he went on to be a truck driver.  He would drive for himself as an owner/operator and then he would drive for L.B. White Trucking.  He enjoyed sharing stories from the highways to and from, every mile, and every grain elevator between home and to his destination.  Later in life, he returned to his accounting background for Libby LeMaster at H&R Block.

Monty and Carol had three children, Jeremy, Joshua, and Amy that he enjoyed spending time with.  He loved to watch his boys play football, basketball, and baseball.  He was the president of the Little League Football in Wellington.  One of his greatest joys was to watch and drive the boys play baseball.  He also played many rounds of golf at the Wellington Golf Club, even playing with all three of his children in the Parent/Child and even his grandson Cason.  Monty loved to play in the “Biggest Big Game of the Year” and spend time with everyone at the course.

Monty loved sharing a good conversation and a cup of coffee with anyone.  He was always authentic and didn’t mind sharing his opinion. He loved to work in the yard, sit on the back swing for hours, play cards, and he could fix anything mechanically.  Monty enjoyed having his two pugs, Willie & Gracie and feeding them “chickie”.

Monty is survived by his loving wife, Carol of the home; his children, Jeremy (Amy) Troutman of Owensboro, Kentucky, Joshua (Megan) Troutman of Wichita, Kansas, Amy (Joshua) Olsen of Tonganoxie, Kansas; his grandchildren, Cole, Cason, and Kylie Troutman of Owensboro, Kentucky, Otto and Ozzie Troutman of Wichita, Kansas; his siblings, Ronald (Jam) Troutman of the Philippines and Connie (Steven) McFarland of Allen, Texas.  And many nieces and nephews.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Arlis and Dorothy Troutman, and brother, Kris Troutman.

In compliance with health and public safety directives, a private burial at Sumner Memorial Gardens will take place.  A celebration of life will be held at a later date.  In lieu of flowers, a memorial has been established at the Wellington Golf Club.  Contributions can be left with the Shelley Family Funeral Home 704 N.
